Created by Chaumet in the 1960s, these platinum earrings are composed as a pair of sculptural, mirrored spirals. Curved platinum ribbons sweep across densely diamond-set surfaces, creating a sense of rotation within each rounded form. An outer border of individually set diamonds follows the circumference, while delicate, curling extensions interrupt the symmetry with a playful flourish. The approximately 3.80 carats of diamonds lend texture and light to a design that is as much about line and volume as it is about brilliance.
The earrings reflect the more expressive side of mid-century French jewelry, when traditional diamond setting was increasingly brought into dialogue with sculptural form. Chaumet's long-established command of diamond jewelry is evident here in the interplay between tightly controlled construction and an almost spontaneous sense of movement.
A pair of jeweled arabesques, held at the very moment of their unfolding.
